The Big Ten is expected to make a decision on Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh this Friday, a day before the Wolverines are scheduled to play Penn State.
The program is being investigated by the NCAA for sign-stealing but the conference is expected to take their own action against Harbaugh despite threats of legal action, as well as the 10-page letter they’ve received from his attorney.
At this point, it’s unknown what the Big Ten will do in response to the allegations. Even so, the most severe punishment has been outlined.
ESPN’s Heather Dinich reports that the conference has explored multiple ways in which they could handle the situation. Those range from a public reprimand right up to an indefinite suspension.
An indefinite suspension could have a serious impact on Michigan’s future as Harbaugh would be forced to consider his options. He would have no trouble landing a job in the NFL and might decide to leave the NCAA for good if the conference comes down hard on him.
Michigan would hate to have to go through a coaching change amid one of the most successful periods they’ve had in several years.

They were one win away from the national championship game last season and are undefeated in this one. It’s simply not a good time to lose a head coach.
