Mississippi State running back Dillon Johnson entered his name into the portal Wednesday and made sure he took a shot at Bulldogs coach Mike Leach on Twitter on the way out the door.
After thanking God, family, friends, teammates, and Mississippi State fans, Johnson then shocked everybody with a shot at Leach.
“With that being said, since I am not very tough, and Leach is glad I’m leaving, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal with the hopes of finding a more fit playing environment for me,” Johnson wrote.
In his third season at Mississippi State, Johnson ran for 488 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry across three seasons with the Bulldogs, but his limited role got him only 89 handoffs in each of the last two seasons.
He finished his junior season with 119 scrimmage yards in a 24-22 road upset over Ole Miss.
The Bulldogs went 8-4, their best record since Leach took over as head coach in 2020. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play Illinois in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa, Fla., on Jan. 2.
