One Michigan Wolverines player has seen more than enough to know that it is time for him to continue his college career elsewhere.
In a surprising turn of events, Michigan Wolverines’ cornerback DJ Waller Jr. will be searching for a new home in the transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed.
Head coach Sherrone Moore and Michigan just wrapped up spring football over the weekend.
Anthony Broome of TheWolverine.com says Waller was expected to compete for the No. 2 defensive back position this fall, but now he is taking his talents elsewhere.
Waller, an Ohio native with skill, had impressed during his first year at Michigan. His agility, instincts, and tenacity on the field made him a strong candidate to get much playing time in the forthcoming campaign.
The defensive back, who joined Michigan last year as a three-star recruit from Youngstown, Ohio, played 11 games for the national champions during his first year. He recorded 12 tackles and one pass breakup.

He also earned Defensive Freshman of the Week honors five times when the team played against UNLV, Bowling Green, Indiana, Nebraska, and Michigan State, according to On3.com.
The former three-star recruit is the fourth defensive back and the 13th scholarship athlete on Michigan’s roster to enter the transfer portal since January 1.
Sherrone Moore Has Huge Shoes To Fill With The Michigan Wolverines
Head coach Sherrone Moore, who was on the staff when Michigan won the National Title last year, has enormous shoes to fill after Jim Harbaugh headed to the NFL.
He provided a small glimpse of what can do when he went 4-0 in four games as acting head coach when Jim Harbaugh was serving two different suspensions related to potential NCAA rules violations.
This is his first stint as a head coach at any level.
