The Michigan Wolverines are in the midst of a dream season and this is the last thing they needed on their plate with one of their players.
Michigan Wolverines defensive lineman Mazi Smith is facing a felony weapons charge, as originally reported by The Detroit Free Press. This incident reportedly took place back in October and the charges were just filed by the Washtenaw County Court on Nov. 30.
The charge reads as: “WEAPONS-CARRYING CONCEALED.”

The charges were filed on Wednesday, records show, and stem from some incident in Ann Arbor. Details of the incident or why it took nearly two months to file charges were not immediately available.
Smith can face up to five years in prison or a fine up to $2,500.
Michigan plays in the Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis against Purdue on Saturday, and Smith’s availability is unknown after these charges. Losing him on defense would be a major blow.

Smith is coming off a performance against Ohio State where he racked up four total tackles in the game in Columbus. He has compiled 44 tackles and one sack in 12 games this season.
Smith has played in all 12 games this season for the No. 2 Wolverines.
