Things are heating up as the latest controversy involving Michigan continues to dominate the news.
The Wolverines are facing punishment as the NCAA investigates sign-stealing allegations, with head coach Jim Harbaugh expected to be suspended by the Big Ten.
While the NCAA’s probe is still ongoing, the conference can levy its own suspension, and reports have suggested the ban could come down today. However, it’s also reported that the university has threatened legal action and will attempt to take the Big Ten to task if Harbaugh is indeed suspended.
According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, it’s unlikely that anything will happen over the course of the next two days as the rules allow Michigan enough time to respond to any allegations. Thamel has also said that there will be a legal battle between the school and the conference if a suspension is handed down.
“Don’t expect any action by the Big Ten in the Michigan sign stealing case for at least the next 48 hours, as the league’s sportsmanship rules allow for a “reasonable” chance to respond to an institution or individual. Sources have told ESPN that they’ll be a legal battle if there’s a punitive suspension by the Big Ten to Jim Harbaugh,” he wrote on X.
Football Scoop is claiming that Michigan isn’t actually looking to take action but has been feeding such reports to buy themselves time.
