Michigan State men’s basketball freshman Jeremy Fears Jr. is thankful to still have his life right now.
Fears was shot in the leg early Saturday morning and underwent surgery, according to the university. The shooting happened near the freshman point guard’s hometown Joliet, Illinois.
Fortunately for him, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Police stated in a news release that an 18-year-old male was shot in the left thigh early Saturday at a house in the city after a man entered the house through the front door and began firing.
That man escaped and cops have not been able to capture him.
Spartans head coach Tom Izzo said in a statement that Fears is resting after having undergone surgery.
“Jeremy underwent surgery this morning and is resting comfortably. While there is much we still don’t know, my focus is supporting Jeremy on his road to recovery.”
