A Michigan quarterback is eying a return for a seventh season following the Wolverines’ National Championship win.
While head coach Jim Harbaugh isn’t certain he’ll return after leading the program to national glory, Jack Tuttle still wants to be a part of the team and is looking for a seventh year of eligibility after playing backup to J.J. McCarthy last season.
Tuttle, who spent four seasons at Indiana before transferring to Michigan, made six appearances for the Wolverines in 2023, with a pair of arm injuries and a dislocated shoulder limiting his involvement. But he would like to compete for the starting job next term and is trying to square it off with the NCAA.
McCarthy has decided to enter the NFL Draft, with Alex Orji next in line. However, given his experience, Tuttle could usurp him for the starting job if he is allowed to return for another year.
He should like his chances given that a player is returning to Miami for a ninth year in 2024 while Oklahoma’s Casey Thompson and Oklahoma State’s Alan Bowman have both been granted a seventh year.
“It depends,” he said when asked whether he would return after the championship game vs. Washington. “We’ll see what happens. I think I’ll have the opportunity to. It’s still in process. I’m enjoying this moment right now.”
