As the Michigan Wolverines prepare for opening day, one person who isn’t is Head Coach Jim Harbaugh given his suspension. One player is letting the world know how he feels.
Michigan Quarterback J.J. McCarthy rolled into today’s game wearing a “Free Harbaugh” shirt. McCarthy, Michigan’s starter wore this shirt at today’s home game while the team prepared for their game against East Carolina University. Other players joined McCarthy with their shirts.
Harbaugh is currently serving a team-imposed three-game suspension following a series of recruiting violations that took place during the COVID-19 dead period, where he reached out to different recruits through texts and even bought burgers for them.
The University of Michigan’s athletic department announced that they are firmly behind Harbaugh, though the team handed the suspension after the NCAA concluded its investigation.
It should be noted that the NCAA initially imposed a four-game ban, but decided to postpone it until a later date. Though it’s good to see players sticking by their coach, it should be understood that Harbaugh knew the rules and accepted the suspension for the opening three games.
