Jim Harbaugh could have landed himself yet another seven-figure bonus this season, having already banked over $2 million in incentives so far.
According to FrontOfficeSports.com, Harbaugh has received $500,000 for winning the Big Ten East Division title, $1 million for leading the Wolverines to the overall conference title, and another $500,000 for leading them to the College Football Playoffs. An extra $500,000 came his way after he won the Big Ten Coach of the Year Award.
And that’s not all! According to reports, Harbaugh would have made another $1 million if he won today’s Fiesta Bowl contest against TCU, followed by another victory next week in the National Championship Game. Unfortunately, as you probably know by now, the Wolverines lost to the Horned Frogs in a thriller, 51-45.
Harbaugh is making $8.05 million this season, not including bonuses, after a contract restructuring that was announced in February.
The Michigan HC agreed to have his pay cut in half – to around $ 4 million – during the 2021 season as part of a renegotiated deal while also foregoing $1.5 million in bonuses in order to help out staff members of the athletic department who experienced pay cuts themselves.
With a salary like that, it’s no surprise that Harbaugh is coming under plenty of fire for his play-calling during Saturday’s loss – which was highlighted by some very questionable timeout management during the final minutes of the game.
