The Michigan Wolverines football program has become the subject of an investigation, with charges expected soon.
That is according to a report from Sports Illustrated citing multiple sources. The details of the probe are unknown at the moment but there’s been no indication of severe misconduct.
“Among the possible paths of resolving the case short of a Committee on Infractions hearing is a negotiated resolution, in which the school and NCAA Enforcement agree on both the violations and their classification (Level I, II, III or IV, with Level I being the most serious). A negotiated resolution would expedite a finalizing of the case,” SI reports.
Jim Harbaugh Could Be Hit With Sanctions
It’s also unclear as to whether the investigation has triggered Jim Harbaugh’s interest in returning to the NFL, but the Wolverines HC could be facing sanctions as a result of whatever is happening at Michigan.
Due to the NCAA’s new strict liability protocols, Harbaugh would be sanctioned whether or not he was involved in the violations. The aforementioned states that head coaches are responsible for infractions within their programs even if they have no knowledge or involvement.

If Harbaugh leaves the program, he would escape potential sanctions. However, should he stay, he would be open to punishment. It appears it might be the latter, given this new report on the coach’s future.
This negative development comes in the wake of the Wolverines’ loss to the TCU Horned Frogs in the College Football Playoff semifinal on Saturday.
TCU will face the Georgia Bulldogs in the championship game on Saturday 9 following their shock victory over Harbaugh and Michigan.
