Football is a cruel game sometimes. Just ask the Michigan Wolverines and their fans.
During today’s high-stakes Fiesta Bowl matchup with TCU, the Wolverines got off to a rough start and were trailing 14-0 early. But it looked like they had pulled to within four points early in the second quarter when JJ McCarthy hit Roman Wilson for a 50 yard bomb.
The play was originally ruled a touchdown, as Wilson appeared to catch the ball just as he was crossing the goal line. But the replay booth decided to take a closer look at things, and somehow they came up with enough evidence to determine that Wilson caught the ball and went down just before the end zone.
It was a controversial call, to say the very least. Take a look and you be the judge.
Usually it wouldn’t be such a big deal, as you’d assume Michigan would be able to punch it in from the one inch line with four downs to work with…

But on this occasion, the call would prove very costly, because the Wolverines fumbled the ball away on the very next play.
If Michigan goes on to lose this game, you can bet their fans will look to this call as a major factor that costs them a spot in the National Championship.
