Football fans are in shock over the emergence of a new odds-on favorite to win the 2023 Heisman Trophy.
USC Trojans’ quarterback Caleb Williams is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, and he’s been widely regarded as the favorite to capture the honors again here in 2023. But after Saturday’s games, it’s clear that Williams has a lot of ground to make up.
As noted by MLFootball on X (formerly Twitter), Washington Huskies’ QB Michael Penix Jr. had +200 odds of winning the Heisman entering this weekend’s games at BetOnline, with Williams just behind him at +250.
But following Saturday’s action, Penix Jr. has emerged as the heavy favorite at -150, with Williams right at +1400. In BetOnline’s updated odds, however, Williams has since dropped all the way down to +300 odds.
Here’s how fans reacted to the new Heisman Trophy odds:

Florida State QB Jordan Davis, Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy and Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel all share the second-best odds at +900. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is behind them with +900 odds.
Penix Jr. led the Huskies to a thrilling 36-33 victory over the Oregon Ducks on Saturday. He has completed 72.1 percent of his pass attempts for 2,301 yards, 20 touchdowns and only three interceptions.
Williams had a rough outing in Saturday’s 48-20 blowout loss to Notre Dame, tossing just 199 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. That said, he still has 23 touchdowns against just four picks on the year, so write him out of the Heisman Trophy running at your own risk.
