Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. channeled his inner Geno Smith after beating Oregon to become a Pac-12 champion on Friday night.
Penix, who will likely be the next Heisman Trophy winner, was all smiles while speaking to reporters following the monumental win and ended his postgame speech with an iconic Smith quote.
“They tried to write us off, but we ain’t write back, we aint write back!” he said with a huge grin on his face.
Smith, last season’s Comeback Player of the Year, coined the quote after he took his career off the IV to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL following an opportunity with the Seattle Seahawks, having also registered the league’s highest completion percentage.
Meanwhile, Penix had an incredible game on Friday night as he completed 69 percent of his pass attempts (27/39) for 319 yards and one touchdown in the 34-31 win.
