Michael Penix Jr. did himself no favors on Monday night.
Michael Penix Jr. and Washington lost to Michigan in the 2024 National Championship game and it could affect his draft stock in this year’s NFL Draft.
Penix Jr. couldn’t overcome the Wolverines’ defense as No. 2 Washington lost to No. 1 Michigan in the College Football Playoff National Championship game by the final score of 34-13 on Monday night.
Penix Jr. threw for a modest 255 yards on a night where he threw 51 passes. He had not thrown that many passes in a single game all year. He completed just 52.9 percent of his passes while throwing just one touchdown to go along with two costly interceptions. This was just his second game with multiple interceptions this season and it came at the worst time.
Many took to social media and spoke on how his performance likely plummeted his draft stock.

During the 2023 college football season, Penix completed 66.7 percent of his passes for a whopping 4,648 yards, 35 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He became the first college quarterback to throw for 4,500 yards in back-to-back seasons since Patrick Mahomes was tearing up the field at Texas Tech.
Penix is etched in history but his lasting memory might leave a stain on NFL teams looking for a quarterback.
