Fresh off a record-setting sports wager win, well-known Houston Astros super fan Jim McIngvale, better known as “Mattress Mack”. is placing another wager with a potentially massive payout.
Mattress Mack placed a whopping $10 million worth of bets on the Astros to win the 2022 World Series. Sure enough, Houston eliminated the Philadelphia Phillies in six games to claim the Commissioner’s Trophy.
He took home $75 million in winnings from the wager, setting a personal record for the largest successful sports bet ever. Now, Mack has his eyes set on winning another giant bet.
Carl Johnson, who serves as the Race & Sports Book Director MGM Resorts Beau Rivage, Mississippi, announced on Tuesday that Mattress Mack placed a 10-1 bet on the Houston Cougars to win the 2023 college basketball national championship.
If Mack wins the wager, he’ll receive a shiny $500,000 payout.
McIngvale made his fortune through the highly successful Gallery Furniture, which he founded and currently owns. McIngvale also placed $9.5 million worth of wagers on the Cincinnati Bengals to defeat the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 56, but Cincy fell just short in a 23-20 loss.

The Cougars have been one of the top college basketball teams under head coach Kelvin Sampson, who’s held the position since 2014-15. They reached the Final Four in 2021, losing 78-59 to the eventual champion Baylor Bears.
Last season, the Cougars reached the Elite Eight but fell 50-44 to the Villanova Wildcats. The Kansas Jayhawks were the winners of the 2022 March Madness tournament, defeating the North Carolina Tar Heels in the finals.
The 2020 March Madness tournament was scrapped because of the COVID-19 pandemic but with
a superb record of 33-4, the Cougars certainly looked poised to go on a deep playoff run.
The Cougars are a perfect 3-0 to start the season. They return to the court on Wednesday for a home tilt against Texas Southern.
