Matt Rhule has been accused of “lying through his teeth” in the wake of Nebraska’s loss to Colorado.
The Cornhuskers head coach was called out by Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders after Saturday’s game, with the QB accusing him of disrespecting the Buffs’ logo by having his players stand on it.
Rhule later claimed to be leading a team prayer before Shedeur confronted his players, even saying he invited the QB to join them. However, SB Nation’s Ryland Scholes has said that was not the case as he saw what happened.
While he wasn’t in earshot, Scholes noted that none of Rhule’s actions suggested that the move had anything to do with praying.
“I was there in person and saw the whole thing go down. I think Rhule is lying through his teeth,” he wrote. “Before I get into the details, I want to clarify that I don’t know everything about the situation because I wasn’t able to actually hear what words were exchanged between the two sides. I don’t have all the answers, but here is a breakdown of what I saw at midfield before the game.
“Rhule brought every single Husker on top of the CU logo for around two or three minutes before Shedeur shut it down. During that time, he gave some sort of speech to all his players.
“Every Nebraska player was standing on their feet for the entire duration of Rhule’s speech. Typically during a team prayer, at least a couple players will kneel down, close their eyes, or gesture to the sky after the prayer is finished. None of these things happened during Rhule’s speech, which seems a bit odd for an alleged team prayer. Rhule’s speech looked more like some sort of pump up speech than a team prayer.”

Whatever the case may be, the Buffs were the ones who achieved what they set out to on the day, with Sanders putting in another very solid performance after a rocky start.
Deion Sanders’s Buffaloes are 2-0 to start the season, a position no one expected them to be in, and are set for a local clash against the Colorado State Rams this coming Saturday.
