As a head coach in the National Football League, Matt Rhule was a complete bust.
As a head coach in college, there is still some time to turn the 2023 season into a positive one and Rhule is certainly saying all the good things. If pregame speeches could win a game by themselves, this one from Matt Rhule before a Huskers home game would have done exactly that.
After asking them to lock in and be present in the moment, Rhule starts with, “Let me tell you what’s going to happen today.”
“We’re putting away childish things. We’re putting away fear because there’s no reason for us to be afraid. We’re putting away expectations. We are going to go out there today, and we are going to play the way we play.”
“I don’t want anybody on that field hoping, or waiting. I want guys out there demanding it from themselves and believing in it. I want to see your personalities come out tonight.”
“Play like brothers. Pick each other up. Help each other out tonight. That’s why we’ve gone through what we have gone through. The camp you went through. The first two weeks. But there ain’t any victims here.”
“If we die, we die. IF WE DIE, WE DIE.”
The speech had everyone on social media fired up. Even NBA superstar Kevin Durant.

Matt Rhule is charged with rebuilding the Cornhuskers after directing turnarounds at Temple and Baylor before departing for the NFL.
