A Twitter map shows who each state is cheering for in the men’s NCAA basketball Final Four.
The Florida Atlantic Owls already fell to the San Diego State Aztecs in the first showdown on Saturday, and the Miami Hurricanes are currently squaring off against the UConn Huskies in the other. The two winners will meet in the national championship on Apr. 3.
Using fans’ hashtags and geotagged Twitter data, BetOnline came up with a map to show who each state is rooting for in the Final Four. The map shows that Florida Atlantic and San Diego State are receiving the overwhelming amount of rooting interest.
While UConn has plenty of love on the east coast, the Hurricanes appear to have very little support outside of Florida.
The Huskies went on a dynastic run from 1999 to 2014, claiming four national championships in that 15-year span (’99, 2004, 2011 and ’14). 2023 also marks the school’s first appearance in the Final Four since their last national championship winning season.
The Owls, one of the all-time great March Madness underdog stories, were in just their second ever tournament appearance. They first made it in 2002 but fell to Alabama in the opening round.

San Diego State has never won the national championship. This year marked just their third appearance in the Sweet Sixteen, as well as their first in the Final Four. The Hurricanes also have never won it all but find themselves in the Elite Eight for the second straight year. Last year, they fell to the eventual champion Kansas Jayhawks
