Indiana University freshman Mackenzie Mcbako was arrested after refusing to leave a Taco Bell in the state on Sunday.
Indystar.com cites jail records, as well as an officer attached to the Monroe County Jail in reporting that the 18-year-old was booked at 3:16 a.m. on Sunday morning on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement.
Bloomington police also report having found the player at a Taco Bell on East Third Street following reports from managers who reported that he refused to leave the property after he was refused drive-thru service because he was swearing at employees.
The officers asked him to leave the property but he refused, though he began driving out of the lot before reversing and parking in another space outside the restaurant. Officers continued in their pleas for around 15 minutes before approaching his vehicle. Mgbako, who initially declined to give his name to the lawmen, refused to leave his car after being informed that he was under arrest and officers needed to use a baton to break the passenger side window in order to unlock the doors.
He was then forcibly removed from his vehicle.
“IU Athletics is aware of the situation,” a spokesman for the university said. “We will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal process, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.”
