The LSU Tigers accidentally overpaid head coach Brian Kelly by over $1 million, but the parties have found a resolution to make both sides happy.
Per a report from The Advocate, it was recently discovered that Kelly received over $1 million more than what the school was supposed to pay him. Kelly is on a 10-year contract with the Tigers worth $95 million.
Here’s how both sides will fix the issue, per The Advocate:
“According to a release from the Louisiana legislative audit, LSU and Kelly “have enacted an adjusted payment schedule so the amount of overpayment will be recouped by the conclusion of fiscal year 2023.””
Before taking over as the new head coach of the Tigers, Kelly was the head coach of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2010 to 2021). Kelly replaced fan favorite Ed Orgeron, who led the school to a national championship in 2019. Orgeron and the school had agreed to part ways in the midst of the 2021 campaign.
The Tigers rebounded successfully in year one under Kelly, finishing with a 10-4 record. They fell to the eventual national champion Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship but went on to dominate Purdue in the Citrus Bowl by a final score of 63-7 in the Citrus Bowl.
