Olivia Dunne has spoken out against inequality in the NCAA when it comes to NIL contracts.
The LSU gymnast has the most lucrative NIL deals in college, which leaves her with a net worth of $3.3 million. But she is still an advocate for equality and has called for parity across the board.
Olivia, featured in People’s Women Changing the World issue, has benefitted immensely since NIL went into effect in July of 2021. But, in discussing how it’s changed her career, noted that the opportunities mostly go to men.
“Opportunities for men and women in NCAA sports should be equal. But a lot of the NIL collectives only go to men’s athletics,” she told the publication. “I want to show you can do whatever you love—whether it’s gymnastics or music or painting—and capitalize on it and create your own business.”
Olivia, or Livvy as she’s called, hopes to be a role model for up-and-coming athletes as NIL is still in its infancy.
“There was no roadmap of how to do school, your athletics and social media all at the same time… And I figured I could change that,” she added. “I could pave the way and be a good example to young girls that look up to me.”
