Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler has gone from preseason Heisman favorite to his own fan base booing him and calling for him to be benched in less than four games.
A bunch of Oklahoma fans called for Rattler’s backup Caleb Williams in the first half of the No. 4 Sooners’ 16-13 win against West Virginia. The chants happened multiple times and first happened after Rattler threw an interception.
When asked about getting booed by the home crowd, Rattler told reporters that it did not bother him.
“I don’t worry about that all,” Rattler said. “I don’t listen to them, they’re not on the field.”
Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley was also asked about those boos and chants.

“If I have guys with thin skin and can’t handle that, I’d have the wrong guys in the room,” Riley said. “I have the right guys in the room.”
Riley added that the fan base is growing impatient due to the program’s massive expectations.
“That’s college football, man. When you have the expectations that we have here in this program and the expectations offensively, it’s part of it,” Riley explained. “It’s out of our control. Of course, it always helps us a lot more when our fan base supports us. I’ll come out and say that. I want to play better offensively more than anybody out there, but them being behind us is what helps. Spencer handled it. It didn’t bother him at all.”
Rattler has thrown eight touchdowns and three interceptions so far in 2021.
