Every team has a turnover celebration in college football. Whether it’s a turnover chain or something else, teams celebrate defensive stops. Then there is Liberty University.
After celebrating a turnover vs. Bowling Green, the team unveiled its turnover Joker mask. The Heath Ledger-inspired mask was donned by Kobe Singleton shortly after a pick-six.
The chaotic vibe the mask brings helps establish the defensive identity as they look to sow chaos into the backfield and make it a proverbial no-fly zone. The team went up 20-0 following the big play and would go on to win the game 34-24.
It’s good to see a small school adopt a fun tradition as it helps put them on the map. Liberty chose the mask in honor of former head coach Hugh Freeze, who sounds like another famous Batman villain.
It’s unknown at this moment if Liberty University will let the world burn, at the very least the AP polls, but the school deserves recognition for creating a fun environment for players with this. For today, we’re all rooting for the villain.
