Kirk Herbstreit has been one of the most respected voices in college football for decades, but he is now getting major backlash for his past comments.
After Indiana lost to Notre Dame in the first round of the College Football Playoffs, Herbstreit argued that the selection committee needed to “find the best teams” instead of valuing win totals.
“Indiana was outclassed in that game,” Herbstreit said. “It was not a team that should have been on that field when you consider other teams that could have been there.”
Many assumed that he was specifically referring to No. 11 Alabama, the first team out of the bracket.
The Crimson Tide had three losses, but despite two of them being to inferior teams, they were still good enough to make it, according to Kirk Herbstreit.
His entire argument was undercut by Alabama’s loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
It got so bad at one point that Alabama was even down 16-0 and had multiple turnovers before they began to finally make a game of it.

College football fans made sure to blast Herbstreit for his past comments after he took to X and congratulated the Wolverines on their victory.
“Bama is the best 5 loss team in the nation. Should they have been in the playoffs?” one fan said in a mocking tone.

Kirk Herbstreit Fires Back At Fans Following Michigan Bowl Win vs. Alabama
Kirk Herbstreit has been getting blasted on social media ever since the Wolverines defeated the Crimson Tide in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday.
Herbstreit responded to a critic who claimed the ESPN analyst “wanted Alabama” in the College Football Playoff.
“Keep believing the false narratives clown,” Herbstreit responded to an X user who posted: “You wanted Alabama in the playoff.”
