Kirk Herbstreit ended 2024 on a bad note, and now he has begun 2025 on that same note.
The ESPN analyst recently revealed it wasn’t him doing all the trash-talking on social media despite it coming from his account.
Specifically on X, he has faced a lot of backlash for his college football teams. It started when he said the Florida State Seminoles were rightly left out of last year’s College Football Playoff in 2023.
This past season, he referred to Ohio State Buckeyes fans as “lunatic fringe.”
Kirk Herbstreit also received a brutal Community Note on X after he spoke on “false narratives” about his College Football Playoff views.
Well, it seems that many of his online takes do not belong to him since he deleted X and does not run it.
“I deleted Twitter a long time ago. I don’t have it,” Herbstreit said this week on the On3 podcast with Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman. “I just have a buddy. My son tweets stuff out. It’s ridiculous. I don’t read anything. I don’t see anything. Nothing.”

Well, it appears he redownloaded the app, as his latest post sounded like it came straight from him.
“Just woke up and seeing how devastating the fires are in Southern California-we obviously just left that area calling the Rose Bowl-know so many people that are in harms way-thinking and praying for everyone’s safety in that region,” Herbstreit wrote on X.

“Glad to know Kirk’s son is awake and said his morning prayers,” a fourth fan said as he mocked what Kirk Herbstreit said.

“Why is your son tweeting in the first person?” a fifth fan asked.
One final fan summed it up: “This is nice but you literally just said that you don’t use twitter so why are you having someone else post this to make you look good? Tbh this such a bad look. If you really want to express sentiment do it. OR did you lie in your interview and you really do manage your twitter (most likely).”

Kirk Herbstreit Was Close To Leaving ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’
There was once upon a time when college fans absolutely loved Kirk Herbstreit and his dog.
His original dog has died and been replaced, and although the love for the new pup remains, the conversation around Herbstreit has certainly changed.
Herbstreit has been a fixture for the network’s college football coverage for nearly three decades.
However, he considered leaving College GameDay after landing the job with Amazon Prime.
“I thought when I took the Amazon deal three years ago that I would probably have to give something up because it’s so hard to do all three of these things,” Herbstreit told the Andy & Ari podcast. “But now, man, you couldn’t kick me off the set. Like, I absolutely love it. We’re having a blast.”
His biggest reason for staying on was ESPN’s hiring of Pat McAfee and legendary coach Nick Saban on GameDay.
