Kirk Herbstreit is calling on the NCAA to make one significant change to the CFP National Championship game following this year’s semifinal fixtures.
The game is now set, with Michigan and Washington to go head-to-head for national glory next Monday after defeating Alabama and Texas respectively.
The ‘College GameDay’ analyst reckons the game should be hosted by the Rose Bowl and has suggested that all finals that follow should also be held there. Herbstreit wants the Pasadena stadium to be the permanent home of the National Championship game.
“I really wish the leaders and decision makers would just make the Rose Bowl the host for the National Championship EVERY YEAR!!” he posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, this week. “The setting, beauty, field, and history of that place is unparalleled. Last night was another chapter in its long and incredible history of memorable moments.”
The latest iteration of the Rose Bowl made a case for Herbstreit as it provided a great atmosphere for what was an incredible finish. The Wolverines forced overtime against the Crimson Tide to win 27-20 and seal their trip to Houston’s NRG Stadium.
Of course, Herbstreit would prefer it if the game was held in California instead of the home of the Houston Texans. Who knows, though? He might get his wish in time to come.
