Gethro Muscadin was involved in a single-vehicle crash on the Kansas Turnpike in the early hours of Dec. 30 and he simply never recovered.
The 6-foot-10 former Kansas and New Mexico forward died late Monday from the injuries he suffered in the crash.
Jayhawks coach Bill Self announced the news in a statement:
“Gethro left us late last night,” Self said, via ESPN. “He was involved in a major car accident 10 months ago and has basically been in a non-responsive state since then. Although only here one year, Gethro was loved and liked by all and will always be remembered as a Jayhawk. We wish his family and loved ones the best going through this most difficult time.”
The vehicle he was in went off the road and rolled multiple times, according to multiple reports.
Muscadin grew up in the seaside city of Gonaives, Haiti, and moved to the U.S. in 2006 to pursue basketball.
