Johnny Manziel has responded to the Heisman Trophy Trust’s decision on Reggie Bush.
The trust has announced that the former star running back will be reinstated after losing his Heisman privileges 14 years ago.
“We are thrilled to welcome Reggie Bush back to the Heisman family in recognition of his collegiate accomplishments,” Michael Comerford, the president of The Heisman Trophy Trust, said on Wednesday, per ESPN. “We considered the enormous changes in college athletics over the last several years in deciding that now is the right time to reinstate the trophy for Reggie. We are so happy to welcome him back.“
Manziel – who revealed in March that he would be boycotting all Heisman ceremonies until Bush got his award back – is excited about the recent development and took to Twitter/X to praise the Heisman Trust for doing the right thing.
“Thank you to the @HeismanTrophy for doing what’s right and welcoming a storied member of our history back into the fold,” he wrote. “There were many voices throughout this process that stood on the table for Reggie simply because of the kind of human being he is. I look forward to being on that stage with you this December @ReggieBush you deserve it.“

Reggie Bush Has Made His Own Statement Since Being Reinstated
Reggie Bush won the Heisman while playing for USC in 2005, but it was taken away five years later after the NCAA levied sanctions against the school, with their violations including impermissible benefits for the player during his college career.
The Heisman Trust has decided to bring Reggie back, noting the changes in college athletics and player compensation given the current NIL era.
“Personally, I’m thrilled to reunite with my fellow Heisman winners and be a part of the storied legacy of the Heisman Trophy, and I’m honored to return to the Heisman family,” Bush told ESPN in a statement. “I also look forward to working together with the Heisman Trust to advance the values and mission of the organization.“
The trust is returning the trophy to Bush, while USC will get a replica. Starting this year, the former RB will be invited to all Heisman Trophy ceremonies.
