Johnny Manziel is taking drastic measures in a bid to get the NCAA to walk back on a decision they made close to two decades ago.
Manziel, who has been pushing for Reggie Bush to be reinstated as a Heisman, has announced that he will be staying away from the Heisman trophy ceremony, as well as other Heisman-related events until the former star running back is returned his award,
“After careful thought and consideration I will be humbly removing myself from the Heisman trophy ceremony until Reggie Bush gets his trophy back,” Manziel announced on X this Saturday. “Doesn’t sit right with my morals and values that he can’t be on that stage with us every year. Reggie IS the Heisman trophy.
“Do the RIGHT thing, NCAA, the ball is in your court. Much love.”
The former quarterback violated a great many rules during his time at Texas A&M but escaped any significant punishment, with his Heisman status never coming under threat. Reggie, on the other hand, was found guilty of forfeiting his “amateur status” by accepting illegal gifts from agents after winning the Heisman in 2005.
All pleas to have him reinstated have so far fallen on deaf ears.
