Mark Schlereth, who won three Super Bowls during his 12-year career in the NFL, was absolutely blasted when he suggested the Denver Broncos should consider trading Von Miller during an appearance on FS1’s SPEAK FOR YOURSELF show on New Year’s Day.
“You have to admit that you are in a rebuilding phase,” Schlereth said. “And I would say this, the No. 1-valued asset on your team is Von Miller. You need to trade him. You need to get rid of him.
“You need to strip it down and admit, ‘We’re in trouble, we need draft capital. We need to find a quarterback of the future. We don’t have a tight end on this roster, we don’t have a No. 1 receiver on this roster, our offensive line stinks, we have got issues beyond issues all over the place.’”
That’s a move would not go over well in Broncos Country, but it is a conversation the powers to be will have this offseason.
“I think we’re going to visit all that,” general manager John Elway said during his end-of-season press conference on Dec. 31 when asked if the team will consider trading Miller. “I think we have to look at all the possibilities and get an evaluation of that.”
He also talked about the linebacker playing under the team’s new coach.
“We’re trying to evaluate what went on and then find solutions,” Elway said. “One of the solutions is that we’re going to need our core guys to play better. Von, he had a good year this year.
“Can Von play better? Yeah, I think Von can play better. That’s part of the new thing when that comes in with the next coach.”

If Denver does decide to go that route, that should likely look for the same type of package the Oakland Raiders got for trading Khalil Mack to the Chicago bears, which was for two first-round picks, a third-round pick and a sixth-round pick.
