A football player attached to the program at the University of Kansas has been arrested following someone calling in a bomb threat from the school’s football facilities.
According to Maddie Hartley of The University Daily Kansan, offensive lineman Joe Krause was taken into police custody on Monday and has been charged with aggravated criminal threats and causes of terror, evacuation, and disruption. Hartley also reports that there’s been no official connection between the arrest and the bomb threat as far as the media is concerned.
Police responded to the threat at Anderson Family Complex on Monday afternoon. The area was declared safe after an evacuation and a subsequent search, with the authorities giving the all-clear at 8:01 PM.
Per The Topeka Capital-Journal’s Jordan Guskey, the Kansas athletics department issued a statement following Krause’s arrest.
“We are aware of a situation involving one of our student-athletes,” the university’s athletics department said in a statement, per Jordan Guskey of the Topeka Capital-Journal. “We take the safety of our staff, student-athletes, and coaches very seriously. We are gathering more information and will have no further comment at this time.”
Krause made two appearances for Kansas in 2020, against TCU and Iowa State. He did not play in 2021. The redshirt sophomore also competed in lacrosse, track and field, and swimming in high school.
