Many of the LSU players played today’s Peach Bowl against the Oklahoma Sooner with a heavy heart after finding out that offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger’s daughter-in-law had passed away following a plane crash en route to the game in Atlanta.
However, not all of the Tigers were playing with heavy hearts, because not all of them even knew about the tragic loss their coach had suffered. That includes quarterback Joe Burrow.
After passing for seven touchdowns and rushing for another, Joe Burrow spoke to the ESPN crew on the field about LSU’s 63-28 semi-final victory. And during the interview, Burrow was asked about Carley McCord’s passing. That’s when he revealed to the crew that it was the first time he was hearing about the devastating news.
Burrow’s reaction says it all:
Carley was one of five people who passed away when their plane crashed on its way to Saturday’s game. She was working as a sports reporter in New Orleans and was on her way to cover the Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Ensminger, along with the rest of Carley’s family and friends.
