The Michigan Wolverines will not be playing for a National Championship this year, and they have Jim Harbaugh’s timeout management to blame for it…
Well, at least partially.
There were a number of questionable calls by the Wolverines head coach in this one (as well as some questionable officiating calls as well). But in the end, Michigan still had a chance to come away wit the win at the end of the game. However, many on Twitter couldn’t help but wonder what Harbaugh was thinking, as he saved his timeouts with TCU running out the clock during the final two minutes of play.
TCU gained possession of the ball with a 51-45 lead and just 3:05 remaining in the game. Many probably thought Harbaugh would start burning his timeouts right then and there, but he curiously waited until four plays later—with 1:07 left on the clock—to use his first timeout of the half.
He would then use his second and third timeouts after that, but that left the Wolverines with just 45 seconds left on the clock by the time they got the ball back.
And by that point it was too little, too late, as the desperation seemed to get to Michigan. They would end up going three and out, falling short of earning that coveted spot in the National title game.
To no one’s surprise, social media was quick to jump all over Jim Harbaugh for his timeout management after the game.
