Jim Harbaugh served out the third of his three suspensions when Michigan played Ohio State on Saturday, so he probably watched the game from his couch. Still, the Wolverines head coach is set to pick up a big, fat check.
According to Steve Berkowitz of USA Today, Harbaugh is owed $500,000 for today’s game despite being nowhere around when Michigan beat the Buckeyes. The sum will be paid in the form of a bonus for winning the Big Ten East and guiding the Wolverines to the Big Ten championship game. While he will not be paid for coaching the final regular-season game, Harbaugh’s in for some serious bank.
“Per his contract, even though Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended for today’s game against Ohio State, he is due a $500,000 bonus for Wolverines winning Big Ten East and advancing to conference title game,” Berkowitz writes.
Michigan remains unbeaten, winning all six of Harbaugh’s missed games, having also played their first three fixtures of the season without their coach.
He will be back when they face the Iowa Hawkeyes in the conference championship game next week.
