A starter on a college football team has been suspended for the first six games of the season and was unavailable when the program took to the field in Week 1.
ESPN reported that Iowa State offensive lineman Jake Remsburg was expected to be hit with the aforementioned ban ahead of the Cyclones’ clash against Northern Iowa on the weekend. The suspension resulted from his involvement in a gambling scandal that has had some adverse effects on the team.
Remsburg was just one of several Iowa State players who were made to miss the fixture due to the investigation pertaining to gambling infractions.
Quarterback Hunter Dekkers, running back Jirehl Brock, tight end DeShawn Hanika, and defensive lineman Isaiah Lee are also being investigated. Brock and Lee have already left the team while Dekkers and Hanika weren’t involved in training camp ahead of the beginning of the season.
Per reports, Remsburg’s gambling activity didn’t include bets involving Iowa State, which is why his suspension is shorter than that of some of the other players implicated.
The program says it “has received the eligibility rulings from the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Reinstatement (SAR) Committee and shared those with impacted student-athletes.”
