J.J. McCarthy may be the star of the University of Michigan football team, but he’s had an important person on his side off the field: his girlfriend, Katya Kuropas.
She first gained worldwide attention in 223 when McCarthy’s father seemingly groped her in the stands during a game.
The Michigan quarterback began dating Kuropas while both were still in high school at Nazareth Academy in Illinois and they’ve been riding for each other ever since.

McCarthy and Kuropas began dating in 2018. The pair celebrated their fifth anniversary in October 2023 while McCarthy was in his junior year of college.
Kuropas has supported her boyfriend in the bleachers throughout his career, including as Michigan made its way to the NCAA championship in the 2024 season.
McCarthy has a chance to lead Michigan to its first national championship since 1997.
