A Michigan insider has revealed who he thinks will take over from Jim Harbaugh should the Wolverines head coach opt to return to the NFL.
According to reports, Harbaugh is strongly considering a move back to the pros and has been hosted for interviews by both the Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons.
Michigan would love it if their head coach could stick around and remain in discussion over a new contract that would make him the highest-paid coach in college football. But there’s every chance that he could leave given the latest developments.
John U. Bacon, a Michigan alum and insider, has tipped Wolverines offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore to take over if Harbaugh leaves.
“Truly nobody knows if Harbaugh will stay at Michigan, but if he does go to the NFL, here are my odds on possible replacements: Brian Kelly: 0% Sherrone Moore: 100% Margin of error: +/- 1%,” he wrote on X.
Replying to another user in the comments, Bacon admitted that he was only guessing. But his guess is likely to be an educated one given that he has an ear to the ground on all things Michigan.

It does appear that Harbaugh wants to remain with the program. However, he is seeking immunity from a possible firing if the NCAA’s investigations determine there was wrongdoing on Michigan’s part. And that is thought to be what’s stalling negotiations at the moment.
