A video has surfaced showing Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers placing a bet on his own team.
Dekkers, a starter for Cyclones last year who was expected to start again this season, has been charged criminally after facing accusations of making over 300 bets for $2,799. Of the 300 bets, 26 are believed to have involved Iowa State.
If found guilty, the quarterback will likely lose his NCAA eligibility.
Things are now spiraling for Dekkers, who also stands accused of tampering with records in the state’s investigation as a video has come out showing him making a bet with a woman in a bar. The woman says his name in the video in which they’re seen and heard betting on a Cyclones Week 2 fixture.
Even more damning is the fact that Dekkers is heard asking the female not to post the video because it’s “technically illegal.”
It’s not likely that Dekker would have made the bet as the team’s starter, so the video might date back to 2020 or 2021.

Iowa State beat TCU by three points in Week 2 of the 2020 season. The following term, they lost to Iowa by 10 points.
As to whether the video makes up part of the investigation is unknown as he’s only shown making a handshake bet in a bar as opposed to an official one with a sportsbook. Still, it’s a very bad look given the trouble he’s already in.
