Photos have surfaced online showing the beginning of demolition work on one of the most historic college football stadiums.
The Northwestern Wildcats’ Ryan Stadium is getting torn down ahead of the 2024 season, with the team having played their home fixtures therein for nearly a century.
They won’t be suiting up at Evanston in 2024 and are currently looking for alternative grounds as Ryan Field is set for major renovations, more so a complete rebuild. Images of the venue have popped up online showing cranes taking it down, and they’re heart-wrenching to watch.
You can see some of them right below:
As for the options at Northwestern’s disposal, they could play their home games at Soldier Field or Wrigley Field next season.
While Ryan Field is as old as it gets where stadiums are concerned, it still looked better than some pro stadiums in the country, which makes this an even sadder sight.

The renovation project will cost a reported $800 million. The Wildcats are expected to return in time to start the 2026 season.
