The excitement surrounding college football is intensifying as the weeks go by. And this Saturday produced one of the most impressive walk-off wins as it’s now the stuff of SEC legend.
Missouri Tigers kicker Harrison Mevis has etched his name into state folklore with what was a breathtaking kick against Kansas State and celebrated like he won the national championship, even giving a bit to opposing fans.
Mevis, also known as “The Thicker Kicker” because of his size, kicked a field goal in from 61 yards against the Wildcats on the day to hand the Tigers a walk-off win, taking the scores to 30-27 at the death as he broke the deadlock with an amazing swing of the boot.
Missouri fans rushed the field but, right before they got a chance to, Mevis was seen running up his team’s sideline with his hands in the air and, at the end of it, appeared to pump his fist in the Wildcats’ direction.
The 61-yarder is the longest in SEC history and among the longest in all of NCAA history. Who could blame the guy for celebrating as emphatically?
