On Saturday, Shenandoah safety Haley Van Voorhis made NCAA history in the Hornets’ game against the Juniata College Eagles.
The moment Van Voorhis took the field for Saturday’s showdown, she became the first ever woman non-kicker to play in an NCAA football game. Van Voorhis was brought in late in the first quarter with Shenandoah comfortably leading, and she registered a quarterback hurry that forced a quick incomplete pass:
On Nov. 28, 2020, soccer star Sarah Fuller of the Vanderbilt Commodores became the first woman to play in an NCAA football game when she suited up as the team’s kicker for their game against the Missouri Tigers.
Shenandoah defeated Juniata College by a final score of 48-7. The 5-foot-6 Van Voorhis is also a member of the Hornets’ track and field team.
