Last year, the girls high school basketball team at Mid-Vermont Christian School decided that they would forfeit a game against a team that had a transgender player playing for them. Chris Goodwin, who is the head coach at Mid-Vermont explained the team’s decision not to play the game and withdraw from the tournament.
Goodwin further explained that this was not just his decision, but a decision made by himself, the players, the administration as well as the parents of the players.
“After discussions with the administration and our players and parents, we decided that instead of going against our religious beliefs that… there are differences between male and female, we are created differently, we decided to forfeit that game and withdraw from the tournament,”
After the decision was made not to play, The Vermont Principals’ Association reportedly banned the team from participating in future tournaments. This has led to Coach Goodwin pursuing legal action.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Goodwin was quoted as saying…
I’ve got four daughters. I’ve coached them all at one point in their careers playing high school basketball. I’ve also filled in for the boy’s coach when he can’t make a practice, and I run those practices, and boys just play at a different speed, a different force… than the girls play.
Coach Goodwin is moving forward with his legal battle and has the utmost confidence that the final decision will go his way.
