Stetson Bennett was just on cloud nine after winning his second National Championship, but things took a dark turn this weekend when he found himself in handcuffs.
Bennett, the Georgia quarterback who just led the Bulldogs to a second straight national championship, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication early Sunday morning in Dallas. According to Rebecca Lopez of WFAA, the arrest took place at around 6 a.m. local time in Old East Dallas in Texas.
The report says officers responded to an area call of a man banging on doors in the area.
They found Bennett and “determined he was intoxicated” before taking him to a city detention center. He was released from custody shortly before 11 a.m., WFAA confirmed.
Just this month, Bennett led Georgia to a 65-7 win over TCU in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. He also led the Bulldogs to a national title win over Alabama the previous season.
He is projected to be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft.
