Two weeks ago, tragedy struck the college football world as Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy were killed in a one-vehicle crash.
Willock, 20, and LeCroy, 24, had just spent the day with the rest of the team and staff, celebrating the Bulldogs’ second consecutive national title at their championship parade.
More details continue to emerge from the fatal accident, and the latest comes from the University of Georgia Athletic Association. They claim that the vehicle from the crash was being used without authorization.
According to the statement, the vehicle was rented to LeCroy for use during recruiting activities, and was supposed to be returned once those duties were completed.
Via the Associated Press:
“The car driven in the accident was one of several vehicles leased by our athletic department for use during recruiting activities only,” the athletic association said in Saturday’s statement, which first reported Friday night by the Athens Banner-Herald and Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Policies and expectations that were well understood by athletics staff dictated that such rental vehicles were to be turned in at the immediate conclusion of recruiting duties. Personal use was strictly prohibited. Therefore, the continued use of the leased car by our staff members after their recruiting duties ended earlier that evening was unauthorized.”

In addition to the vehicle being unauthorized, it was also previously reported that the 2021 Ford Expedition was driving at excessive speeds before leaving the road and crashing into two power poles and several trees.
Willock was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, while LeCroy—who was driving at the time—succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Also in the vehicle was Bulldogs offensive lineman Warren McClendon and staffer Victoria Bowles. Both were fortunate enough to survive the accident.
The school’s investigation into tragic incident is still ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the friends and family of those involved.
