Joseph Boletepeli was arrested this week on some very disturbing charges. The former NC State defensive lineman was charged with misdemeanor stalking and communicating threats to Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren.
Boletepeli spent two seasons with the program before transferring to the Maryland Terrapins to finish out his college football playing career, but it’s clear he might have had some lingering resentment for NC State head coach Dave Doeren.
According to ESPN’s David M. Hale, this arrest stems from a tweet Boletepeli sent.
Boletepeli, a member of the 2018 and 2019 NC State teams, reportedly said, “Imma get him I promise. Dave Doeren and the rest.”
Investigators revealed that the former player was near Doeren’s place of work and allegedly sent numerous text messages threatening Doeren and other staff members at NC State. Boletepeli behaved in a way that “would cause a reasonable person to suffer substantial emotional distress by placing that person in fear of death, bodily injury … or the safety of the person’s immediate family.”
For this young man to go this hard leads you to believe that this situation is far from over after he’s free from jail, which is what happened when he was released Friday, but with an ankle monitor on him.
