The Oklahoma Sooners program is in mourning this week after the tragic news of the death of a former player.
According to KFOR in Dallas, former defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin lost his life in a shooting on Thursday. The Dallas Police Department is investigating his death as a homicide.
He was 25-years-old.
Authorities said Lampkin was found dead at a residence Thursday evening with a gunshot wound after the former Oklahoma lineman was not answering phone calls. His phone, wallet, and cellphone were missing from the scene.
Du’Vonta Lampkin played three seasons at Oklahoma. He played in 17 games, recording 27 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and one sack. The Sooners won Big 12 titles all three of his years with the program and reached the College Football Playoff during the 2015 and 2017 campaigns.

Lampkin decided to forego his remaining eligibility after the 2017 season and enter the NFL Draft. He went undrafted and got an invite to Tennessee Titans camp, but did not make the team.
He had a brief stint with the National Arena League during the 2019 season, appearing in three games for the Massachusetts Pirates that year.
Lampkin was later drafted by the DC Defenders of the short-lived XFL in 2019.
