A former No. 1 NCAA football recruit is entering the transfer portal.
According to On3.com, Texas A&M star defensive lineman Walter Nolen is entering the transfer portal following a two-year run with the Aggies. ESPN ranked Nolen as the No. 1 football recruit for the 2022 class.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound Nolen has pieced together a tremendous season for the Aggies in 2023, tallying four sacks, 8.5 tackles for loss and one pass defense in 12 games. In his freshman year, Nolen had one sack, 2.5 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.
The Aggies are coming off a 42-20 loss to the LSU Tigers that dropped them to 7-5 on the year. Nolen’s Aggies will wrap up their 2023 season against the No. 20 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys in the TaxAct Texas Bowl game on Dec. 27.
Nolen is the latest big-named player that is entering the transfer portal. Other notable players set to transfer include Oregon State Beavers quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei, Oklahoma Sooners signal-caller Dillon Gabriel, Duke Blue Devils QB Riley Leonard, UCLA QB Dante Moore (he previously had committed to Oregon), and Harvard defensive tackle Thor Griffith.
The 2023 NCAA Football season will wrap up on Jan. 8, when NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas hosts the College Football Playoff National Championship game. No. 1 ranked Michigan will play No. 4 ranked Alabama in one of the playoff games, with No. 2 ranked Washington hosting No. 3 ranked Texas in the other.
