Miami RedHawks quarterback Maddox Kopp, who was previously with the Colorado Buffaloes, is accusing Deion Sanders of only worrying about the development of his son.
After a three-year tenure at Jackson State that was highlighted by back-to-back SWAC Championships in 2021 and 2022, the Pro Football Hall of Famer agreed to take over the Buffaloes’ football program.
With Prime Time sure to make his son, Shedeur, the starting quarterback, Kopp transferred to Miami. According to Eric Prisbell of On3.com, Kopp was advised by Sanders to transfer, otherwise his role would be to lend a helping hand in developing Shedeur.
You may recall a notable part of the video from Sanders’ first meeting with the Colorado players. Maddox is seen sitting in the front row, awkwardly learning that he basically wasn’t part of the Buffaloes’ future under Coach Prime.
Back in August, Kopp posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), to express disappointment over the NCAA denying his waiver that would have made him eligible to play in 2023. In the statement, Kopp also accused Sanders of making “it very clear that holdovers” weren’t welcome to return.

“Coach prime made it very clear that holdovers from the previous team were not welcome and it was best to leave. Especially as I am a quarterback, the same position as his son who I train with in the offseason. No disrespect to CU or to coach. Just go watch the intro team meeting that got 30 million views. I’m in the front row.”
In the 2022 season, Kopp saw limited time with the Buffaloes. He threw for 123 yards and a touchdown in one game appearance against the No. 14 ranked Utah Utes.
After a promising 3-0 start under Coach Prime, the Buffaloes dropped seven of their final eight games to finish 4-8.
