A former Clemson University running back tragically lost his life on Friday during a family outing at a Georgia lake, according to an Elbert County deputy coroner.
Tyshon Dye drowned while swimming at Richard B. Russell State Park, which is located about 120 miles east of Atlanta near the Georgia-South Carolina state line. Dye knew how to swim, but while he and his brothers attempted to swim across a cove in the park’s beach area, Dye would suddenly decided to turn back.
“It’s hard to tell if he got exhausted and cramped up,” Seymour said. “But he went under.”
His brothers were said to have saw him go under, but couldn’t help him.
The family called police around 4:50 pm, and his body would soon be recovered just before 6:00 pm.
Dye graduated from Clemson with a degree in parks, recreation and tourism management in May 2017, playing for the football team from 2014 through 2016 and was a member of the Tigers’ 2016 national championship team.

“All of our hearts are just broken,” Head Coach Dabo Swinney said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. I can honestly say Tyshon Dye is one of the sweetest souls I’ve ever been associated with or coached. We’re just all heartbroken tonight, and we’re praying for his family and know that he’s been called home.”
