The Michigan Wolverines football team will honor the victims of the Oxford High School shooting on Saturday.
The Wolverines will wear a memorial patch in the Big Ten Championship Game against the Iowa Hawkeyes, according to a report by Tom VanHaaren of ESPN. The memorial patch is in the shape of Oxford’s “Block O” and features four hearts along with the initials and number of Oxford football player Tate Myre. The star running back was one of the students killed as he tried to disarm the gunman. He was seeking to play college football at a Division I school.
In total, four students at Oxford were killed and seven were injured after a 15-year old student opened fire on his classmates. The suspect, Ethan Crumbley, is charged with four counts of first-degree murder and is being charged as an adult.
Here’s that patch:
“Our uniforms will feature a special logo during Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game,” Michigan announced. “The shape is of Oxford’s ‘Block O’, meant to honor all victims, survivors, and community members,” Michigan said in a statement. “The ‘TM’ and ’42’ pay tribute to football player Tate Myre. Tate, Hana St. Juliana, Madisyn Baldwin, and Justin Shilling, whose lives were senselessly lost earlier this week, are represented by four blue hearts.
